Compressed gas is a high molecular density single component gas or mixture of gases pressurized at an absolute pressure exceeding 40 psi at 21.1 degC. A gas compressor is a mechanical device that increases the pressure of a gas by reducing its volume.

In industries, to save costs and improve efficiency, compressed gas are generally recycled and reused. However, used compressed gas may contain traces of lubrication oil, hydrocarbons and other impurities because of which it cannot be directly recycled and fed into the compressor device because it can severely damage its parts. Therefore, before feeding into the compressor, the recycled gas is first purified using activated carbon to remove the trace impurities.
